Red Light Therapy
Why Red-Light Therapy is Beneficial:
- FDA-authorized treatment for Dry AMD
- No injections or surgery
- No downtime
- Less than 5 minutes per eye
- Comfortable in-office treatment
What to Expect with Valeda Light Therapy:
No special preparation is needed before treatment. There are no eye drops, drugs, or needles involved, and most patients experience no discomfort during or after treatment. Treatment consists of a series of 3 applications over 3 consecutive weeks, and this protocol is repeated 3 times per year. Each application takes 5 minutes per eye and you may briefly notice an after-image from the bright treatment. Following treatment, you may immediately resume your normal daily activities.
Symptoms of dry AMD may include:
- Blurry or fuzzy vision
- Trouble adapting to low light
- Straight lines appear wavy or bent
- Loss of central vision, necessary for driving, reading
- Reduced intensity/brightness of colors recognizing faces and performing close-up work
HOW VALEDA Light Therapy Works
Valeda uses photobiomodulation (PBM) — specific wavelengths of low-level light therapy — to stimulate energy production within the eye, supporting improved cellular health. Healthy retinal cells are essential for maintaining good vision. Valeda is indicated for the treatment of dry AMD only.
Dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
AMD is a progressive disease of the retina, the part of the eye that detects visual signals and sends them to the brain. It is the leading cause of vision loss in people over 65, and there is no cure. Macular degeneration can occur in two different forms, either “dry” or “wet”.
WHAT IS Photobiomodulation (PBM) Therapy?
Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy is an advanced medical treatment that applies specific wavelengths of low-level light to targeted tissues in the eye. Because of the specific wavelengths used, PBM is often commonly referred to as “red light therapy”. This red light treatment uses selected, safe light bands to gently stimulate cells in the retina without producing any heat or damage. The light system utilizes a precise combination of visible and near-infrared light bands:

Early treatment can make a difference
Healthy retinal cells are essential for vision. While there is no cure for dry AMD, early detection and treatment are important. Valeda is the first and only treatment for dry AMD, using specific wavelengths of light to support retinal cell health.
